Overview

We strongly recommend having more than one camera to keep the Session more dynamic with various angles and scenes, like a front camera and a wider shot showing your instruments for instance.

If you don’t have any good cameras suitable for streaming, a smartphone is a great alternative.

🖲  Webcams

There's usually no setup required for webcams.

If it's an internal webcam that's pretty obvious.

If it's an external USB webcams, they are usually plug-n-play.

Depending on your model you may be able to install a software to manually control settings of your webcam like exposure, contrast and improve the overall image quality. For the Logitech C920 HD for instance you can download the Camera Settings app.

📷  Digital Cameras (mirrorless, DSLR, camcorders...)

Those offer the best results you can get in terms of resolution (up to 4K/60fps) and image quality with superior lenses.

Check our camera guide for some recommendations.

We recommend checking tutorials on Youtube to find the best settings for your camera model.

📱 Using a smartphone or tablet as a webcam

<aside> 🔋 If you’re using your smartphone as a webcam via Wifi, be aware that it might run out of battery during your Session so it’s best to leave it connected to a power source.

<aside> 💡 You will need to figure out a way to position your phone to get the angle you want, of your face or equipment. You can get a proper smartphone holder or be inventive to make it stand correctly (you could use some playdough to hold it for instance). You may also need an extra long cable if you’re using it via USB.

The free DIY method for iPhone/iPad

Pros : no additional software/app needed. Completely free. Cons : you don’t have that much freedom of movement with the camera as it is connected to your computer with a USB cable and this system requires some tweaking on OBS.
