OBS is a free streaming software that lets you organise all your audio and video sources and send your stream to Echio, like a mini TV production studio. It's widely used for every live streaming platform.

  1. **Download, install and open OBS.**

  2. You may import our Echio Profile for OBS.

It will automatically import settings optimized for a low-to-average internet connection. You may then read our Recommended Settings for OBS to fine-tune your settings if you have a good internet speed and fast computer to create a high quality livestream.

Download the preset Profile and import it in OBS :

    Echio OBS Profile.zip

Click on Profile and Import. Then select Echio as the Profile.

Click on Profile and Import. Then select Echio as the Profile.

  3. Create a Scene

In OBS, click on “+” in the Scenes section to create a Scene. A Scene is a combination of audio, video and images (like your mic, a screen capture of Ableton, a side camera, your webcam etc...). Note that there’s always at least one scene created by default in OBS.

  4. Add Sources

Click on “+” in the Sources panel to add everything you want in that scene in terms of video and sound (cameras, screen captures, image layers, audio, mic etc.).

  5. To add a webcam or camera, choose Video Capture Device.

  6. To share your screen, choose Window Capture or Display Capture.

<aside> ⚠️ Choosing between Window Capture and Display Capture depends on what you want to do during your Live Session. If you have 2 screens, choose Display Capture. If you have only one screen, Window Capture is recommended as it will only capture the app/window you choose and hide unwanted things happening on your computer (you navigating between apps, OBS, your browser, notifications etc.) from viewers. BUT there is a major downside to the Window Capture : any plugin you would open in your DAW won’t show in the video because OBS considers the plugin as another window. So if you want to show how you use plug-ins, you will have to do a Display Capture anyway.

    </aside>

<aside> ⚠️ On Mac OS, don’t forget to allow OBS to use screen-recording on your system by going to  → System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Screen Recording → Check ☑️ “OBS”

    </aside>

To add a Window Capture :

<aside> ⚠️ Be aware that if the app you want to capture is minimized, it won’t appear in the list even though the app is open.

To add a Display Capture :

The yellow frame shows the Ableton Live window that is being shared during the Live Session, while the browser on the right side of the screen won’t be visible for fans watching the Session.

<aside> 💡 Tip : a good way to keep a small browser window to read the chat and send messages during the session is to make the window very narrow and tall like in the image below. But it won’t work if you’re on the session cockpit, you’ll need to go on your artist page.

  7. To add an internal or USB mic, go to Settings > Audio and select the mic you want to use in Mic/Auxiliary Audio.

Then add an Audio Input Capture in the Sources window and choose "Add Existing / Mic/Aux".

  8. To add audio from your DAW or external mixer, click again on Sources "+" and choose Audio Output Capture.

<aside> 👉🏽 Before doing this, you should read the Audio Setup page.

  9. Create all the scenes you want for your live session with combinations of all your sources.

As an example your could have :

<aside> 💡 When you have multiple image/video sources in one scene, like a Window Capture combined with a Webcam, you can re-order them from front to back by moving (drag and drop) them up and down in the Sources window.

  10. Adjust OBS preferences for optimal performances.

Click on Settings in the lower right “controls” menu or Preferences from the nav bar top right OBS menu.

- **Stream** : that’s where add connection info (RTMP Server Link and Stream Key) to send your stream to Echio. Check [6. Test your livestream and go Live](<https://echio.notion.site/6-Test-your-livestream-and-go-Live-89e7b3af9dc344c18dd9dad6680fdb88>) for details about this step.

    ![Screenshot 2022-05-30 at 10.00.31.png](<https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/secure.notion-static.com/7d867867-5f1d-4c00-a8fb-2da74fe8066b/Screenshot_2022-05-30_at_10.00.31.png>)

- **Output** : Here you can adjust your Video Bitrate parameter depending on your internet speed and the Encoder Preset, depending on your computer speed.

    ![Screenshot 2022-05-30 at 10.04.21.png](<https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/secure.notion-static.com/574ad7a4-d0eb-40ce-93a9-07c753decd58/Screenshot_2022-05-30_at_10.04.21.png>)

    - [Test your internet upload speed](<http://www.speedtest.net>) and check this chart to adjust the video and audio bitrates (video is the most important one).

        | Your Upload Speed | Video Bitrate | Audio Bitrate |
        | --- | --- | --- |
        | 20Mbps 💎💎💎💎 | ~ 6000 kbps | 320 |
        | 10Mbps 💎💎💎 | ~ 4000 kbps | 160 |
        | 5Mbps 💎💎 | ~ 2500 kbps | 160 |
        | 2Mbps 💎 | ~ 1000 kbps | 160 |
    - You can also adjust the Encoder Preset. Default value is Veryfast but if your computer is a bit old and has a hard time keeping up with OBS, choose a higher preset (SuperFast or UltraFast). This means OBS will take less GPU power but the quality of the video will suffer a bit. If you have a very fast computer, you can keep the Encore Preset lower and maximize video quality.
- **Audio** : make sure your Sample Rate in OBS is the same as the one set in your DAW and adjust.

    ![Screenshot 2022-05-30 at 10.18.18.png](<https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/secure.notion-static.com/c36ecae2-dad6-432a-b648-9bcc2c3af369/Screenshot_2022-05-30_at_10.18.18.png>)

- **Video** : adjust the livestream video resolution and FPS (Frames Per Second).

    ![Screenshot 2022-05-30 at 10.20.28.png](<https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/secure.notion-static.com/123076c0-c3dc-41ad-832e-3782ce902afc/Screenshot_2022-05-30_at_10.20.28.png>)

    - Output : standard HD resolution is 1920x1080. If your internet upload speed or your computer is a bit slow, you can change that parameter and try lower resolutions until you find one that doesn’t cause *dropped frames* and choppy stream.
    - FPS : we recommend leaving the FPS at 30. If you have a very fast internet, powerful computer and compatible video camera/capture device, you may set the FPS at 60 to get that super realistic smooth video feeling, but that’s mainly relevant for gamers.
    - Downscale Filter : if you computer is slow, choose *Bilinear*.

        | Your Upload Speed | Video Resolution | **FPS** |
        | --- | --- | --- |
        | 20Mbps 💎💎💎💎 | 1920x1080 | 60 |
        | 10Mbps 💎💎💎 | 1920x1080 | 30 |
        | 5Mbps 💎💎 | 1280x720 | 30 |
        | 2Mbps 💎 | 960x540 | 30 |

<aside> 💡 TIP : A good way to test if everything is working before you stream is to do a recording from OBS.
