Setup on Mac

On Mac, unfortunately you can’t automatically capture audio from an app to send to another app. But don’t worry, there’s now plenty of easy options to overcome this limitation.

Case 1 : you have MacOS 13 (Ventura) or above and a recent version of OBS (above 28)

OBS will allow you to capture audio from any app or window either with the macOS Audio Capture Source (OBS 30 or above) or through a macOS Screen Capture Source (OBS 28 or 29).

Simply go to the Source panel on OBS and add either of those “Sources” then choose the relevant audio option. This is better described in the next section :

5. How to set up OBS?

You can also read the OBS guide to capture audio on Mac for more details.

Case 2 : you have MacOS 12 or lower

You will need to install an app to create a “virtual audio device”.

Options are described on this OBS guidelines page.

The best is Loopback but it’s a paid software.

Free options are VB Cable or Blackhole. We usually use Blackhole, you can follow the exact same setup as described on the OBS page, replacing VB Cable by Blackhole.
